Personal Childhood Web

The individuals that had a great impact on my childhood include: Mary Boyd, Francis Williams, Anliza Williams, Bonnie Collier, Odell Collier, and Naomi Lindsey.  These ensured that I was loved, provided for and cared for.

My mother Mary was a elementary school teacher who was a single mother that worked each day to ensure that we were provided for, cared for and loved. She stressed the importance of getting an education. Francis and Anliza were associated of my mother that served as a baby sitter for me in the early years. They provided me with a warm fireplace and a quilt and a meal for the day. Bonnie is an aunt who served as a temporary in home care who helped when we got burned out of our home. She cooked meals, and provided a place to sleep. Odell was the husband of Bonnie who treated me like a son. He served as a family man who helped at the time our home burned by working to provide a place for me and my sister. Naomi acted as a babysitter as well.  She offered conversation on what issue that I may have been having.

Today their influence had a great impact on my life. I am find it critical to love and care for each other in times of need or unfortunate circumstances. I find it important to get an education. I find it critical to work and take care of my family. I find it critical to offer a warm fireplace and a quilt to any of my relatives that may be in a position of need. I find it critical to provide meals, a bed, and conversation on possible issues.
Some important things that my mother said that I remember is "to always care for one another under any circumstances", "never steal", and "avoid bad characters".

I am sorry that I have no pictures to post.  This was in the early 60s when I was in the early years.

  1. Hi Vinston,

I really enjoyed reading your post today. Your mother seems to be a very loving and caring person. It is hard raiding children when there are two parents in the household so I commend her for doing all that she could by herself. It sounds as though she had a great group of friends as a support system. I am also very happy that there are men in the world that would spend time with young boys and young men that may not have a father figure in their lives as the gentleman you spoke of.

  2. Hi Vinston,
Your mother sounds like a wonderful and wise woman. Growing up you do not realize how important your parents are to you or how much you cherish their advice. Some times I think we just need to slow down and enjoy our life because time seems to go by so fast. Best of Luck, Diana
